EEUU y España firman memorando de entendimiento para rehabilitar Palomares – Málaga24h

El ministro de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperación español, José Manuel García-Margallo, y el secretario de Estado norteamericano, John Kerry, han firmado este lunes un memorando de entendimiento en el que se comprometen a lograr una «rehabilitación mayor» del entorno de Palomares y el traslado de tierra contaminada a un «emplazamiento adecuado» en Estados Unidos.
En rueda de prensa conjunta en la sede del Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores, Margallo ha destacado que con el acuerdo que ambos han firmado se va a «reparar un error cometido hace 50 años» y que se empezará a ejecutar «en el plazo más breve posible» con las «infraestructuras necesarias para ello».
Sin ofrecer detalles sobre plazos de ejecución y cómo se repartirá la financiación del proceso de rehabilitación, el ministro ha asegurado que «la voluntad es hacerlo ya, cuanto antes», para que Palomares «vuelva a la normalidad» anterior al accidente.
Por su parte, Kerry ha manifestado que el memorando de entendimiento marcará el camino para continuar con el «saneamiento» de la zona de Palomares.
