Málaga 24h TV – UNESCO dice que hay 758 millones de adultos que no saben leer ni escribir

La Organización de Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) ha afirmado este jueves que, si bien el analfabetismo entre jóvenes se redujo un 25% a nivel mundial entre 1990 y 2015, aún hay 758 millones de adultos que no saben leer ni escribir.

La directora general del organismo, Irina Bokova, ha detallado que dos tercios de la cifra total son mujeres y 115 millones son jóvenes de entre 15 y 24 años de edad, resaltando que África sigue siendo el continente más rezagado en este sentido. Pese a ello, ha destacado que desde el establecimiento del Día Internacional de la Alfabetización hace 50 años, se han registrado «muchos avances», agregando que «las mujeres tienen hoy más oportunidades para aprender a leer y escribir».

The director-general, Irina Bokova, has detailed two-thirds of the total number are women and 115 million are young people between 15 and 24 years old, noting that Africa remains the continent most behind in this regard. Nevertheless, it stressed that since the establishment of the International Literacy Day 50 years ago, there have been «much progress», adding that «women today have more opportunities to learn to read and write.»
