El año 2016 ha cerrado con un total de 93 periodistas y profesionales de la comunicación asesinados, según las estadísticas publicadas por la Federación Internacional de Periodistas, la mayor organización del sector periodístico del mundo.

Estos 93 casos hacen referencia a la muerte de periodistas en el ejercicio de su trabajo, y en el balance no están incluidos aquellos que han fallecido por otros motivos, como accidentes, donde habría que sumar otros 29 que han perecido en dos accidentes de avión.

Las causas de la muerte de estos 93 profesionales van desde asesinatos seleccionados hasta bombardeos, así como incidentes de fuego cruzado, y han tenido lugar en un total de 23 países.
