Casi 1.200 migrantes han muerto en los tres primeros meses de 2017 – Málaga 24h TV

Al menos 1.183 migrantes han muerto en los tres primeros meses del año en todo el mundo, según el último balance difundido por la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones, de los cuales más de la mitad han fallecido en el Mediterráneo intentando alcanzar las costas europeas.

De los 664 muertos registrados en el mar Mediterráneo –hasta el 9 de abril–, la extensa mayoría (un 90 por ciento) fallecieron cuando navegaban en precarias embarcaciones rumbo a Italia procedentes de Libia.
La cifra de víctimas en el Mediterráneo en 2017 es considerablemente menor a la del año pasado, cuando se registraron un total de 1.217 muertes, si bien entonces la cifra se elevó debido a un naufragio que tuvo lugar frente a las costas de Egipcio, en el que murieron casi 460 personas.
No obstante, el balance de muertos no está completo, ya que los datos de los corredores migratorios del Norte de África y del Cuerno de África tienen a publicarse más tarde que en otras regiones.
Este balance sitúa, además, en 31.993 el número de migrantes y refugiados que han llegado a Europa por vía marítima.
