The Vice-President of the Government and Minister for Territorial Administrations, Soraya Sáez de Santamaría, Monday accused the Generalitat of Catalonia and the independence parties to «provoke» the state to achieve a «confrontation» that «mobilizes.»

In an interview in «The Breakfasts of TVE» collected by Europa Press, Sáenz de Santamaría has pointed out that both the announcement of the date and the question of the referendum by the Catalan government, and the event organized this Sunday in Barcelona in support with the Motto ‘Referendum is democracy’, respond to a «strategy of tension» by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
According to the vice president, because the «social support» to independence is «coming down», the secessionist parties «need to stress.» And, in their opinion, they do it to achieve a «strategy of confrontation that mobilizes». The need to generate «tension», he said, also aims to «bring together» independentista themselves before the «big» differences that exist between ERC and the old Convergence.

Thus, it has once again insisted on the illegality of calling for a referendum and has pointed out that the money the Catalan government spends to promote its celebration «is not going to come out of the taxes of the Catalans.»
