Chiquito de la Calzada, Medalla de Andalucía

La Junta de Andalucía ha anunciado este jueves los nombres de las personas e instituciones distinguidas con las Medallas de Andalucía de 2018, y entre los nombres de los distinguidos está el de Chiquito de la Calzada, el humorista malagueño fallecido en noviembre del pasado año.

Gregorio Sánchez recibirá a título póstumo una distinción que muchas voces reclamaban desde hace meses, cuando un par de ingresos hospitalarios volvían a ponerle de actualidad.

Sumará así está distinción a la de Hijo Predilecto de Málaga (también a título póstumo) y de la provincia (recibido en noviembre de 2016).

Gregorio Esteban Sánchez Fernández, nació en 1932 en el barrio de la Trinidad de Málaga y tuvo a los ocho años su primer contacto con el flamenco, dedicándose desde edad muy temprana al cante.

Aunque participó en numerosos cuadros flamencos con artistas de talla mundial, e incluso trabajó durante dos años en Japón, la fama no le llegaría hasta los 62 años, y fue por sus dotes para el humor.

En concreto, fue en 1994 cuando se convirtió en una estrella del programa Genio y figura, cosechando otros éxitos televisivos en los años siguientes, e incluso varias películas en la gran pantalla.

The Junta de Andalucía announced on Thursday the names of the people and institutions distinguished with the Medals of Andalusia of 2018, and among the names of the distinguished is that of Chiquito de la Calzada, the Malaga humorist who died in November of last year.

Gregorio Sánchez will receive posthumously a distinction that many voices claimed for months, when a couple of hospital admissions brought him back to topicality.

It will thus add this distinction to that of Favorite Son of Málaga (also posthumously) and of the province (received in November 2016).

Gregorio Esteban Sánchez Fernández, was born in 1932 in the neighborhood of La Trinidad in Málaga and at the age of eight he had his first contact with flamenco, devoting himself from a very early age to singing.

Although he participated in numerous Flemish paintings with world-class artists, and even worked for two years in Japan, fame would not reach him until he was 62, and it was because of his talent for humor.

Specifically, it was in 1994 when he became a star of the show Genio and figure, reaping other television successes in the following years, and even several films on the big screen.
