Merkel inicia su cuarto mandato tras el voto favorable del Bundestag

La líder de la Unión Cristiano Demócrata, Angela Merkel, ha sido designada este miércoles por cuarta vez canciller de Alemania, después de que el respaldo del Partido Social Demócrata a su nuevo Gobierno se haya traducido en una mayoría en el Bundestag, la Cámara Baja del Parlamento.

Con 364 votos a favor, 315 en contra y nueve abstenciones, Merkel, de 63 años, arranca su nuevo mandato, para muchos el último de una histórica carrera política.

Tras conocer el esperado resultado, Alemania pone fin también a la inestabilidad política generada tras las elecciones de septiembre.

Merkel tiene derecho por tanto a estar 16 años en el cargo, lo que implicaría igualar a su mentor en la CDU, Helmut Kohl, a falta solo de que el presidente, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, la proclame formalmente canciller.

Una vez cumplido este trámite, volverá al Bundestag para tomar posesión y, posteriormente, llegará el turno de los ministros.

The leader of the Christian Democratic Union, Angela Merkel, was appointed on Wednesday for the fourth time as Chancellor of Germany, after the support of the Social Democratic Party to her new Government has resulted in a majority in the Bundestag, the Lower House of the Parliament.

With 364 votes in favor, 315 against and nine abstentions, Merkel, 63, starts her new term, for many the last in a historic political career.

After knowing the expected result, Germany also ends the political instability generated after the September elections.

Merkel is therefore entitled to be 16 years in office, which would mean equalizing her mentor in the CDU, Helmut Kohl, in the absence of the president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, formally proclaiming her chancellor.

Once this process is completed, it will return to the Bundestag to take possession and, subsequently, the ministers’ turn will arrive.
