The High Representative for Foreign Policy and Common Security of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, and the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom have made clear their rejection of the «ultimatums» of Iran in relation to the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, while warning that they will monitor compliance with the agreement. In a joint statement they have said they have taken note of the message Iran launched when its president, Hasan Rohani, said that the Islamic Republic plans to abandon some commitments of the nuclear pact if they do not guarantee a defense against US sanctions. After calling «firmly» Iran to «continue to fully implement its commitments» in the framework of the nuclear pact «as it has done so far,» Mogherini and the foreign ministers of France, Germany and the United Kingdom have called on the Islamic Republic to refrain from taking «more serious steps». They have also recalled the «key role» of the International Atomic Energy Agency by monitoring and verifying Iran’s compliance with its nuclear commitments.
