La ciudad de Málaga ha sido designada como Capital Europea del Turismo Inteligente en 2020, entre ciudades finalistas como Bratislava, Gotemburgo, Niza o Turín, según han dado a conocer en Helsinki. La Capitalidad Europea de Turismo Inteligente es una iniciativa del Parlamento Europeo implementada por la Comisión Europea, órgano ejecutivo de la Unión. La competición entre ciudades de los estados miembros por obtener este reconocimiento tiene como objetivos la promoción del turismo inteligente en la UE, el desarrollo de un turismo innovador, sostenible e inclusivo, así como facilitar el intercambio de mejores prácticas en el sector turístico. En la primera edición, celebrada en 2018, Málaga ya obtuvo el Premio Europeo Turismo Inteligente en la categoría de Accesibilidad tras haber sido la participante con mejor puntuación en este ámbito.

The city of Malaga has been designated as the European Capital of Smart Tourism in 2020, among finalist cities such as Bratislava, Gothenburg, Nice or Turin, as they have announced in Helsinki. The European Capital of Intelligent Tourism is an initiative of the European Parliament implemented by the European Commission, executive organ of the Union. The competition between cities of the member states to obtain this recognition is aimed at promoting smart tourism in the EU, developing innovative, sustainable and inclusive tourism, as well as facilitating the exchange of best practices in the tourism sector. In the first edition, held in 2018, Malaga has already won the European Smart Tourism Award in the Accessibility category after being the highest scoring participant in this area.
