El presidente electo de Argentina, Alberto Fernández, ha mantenido una «constructiva», ha subrayado, conversación telefónica con la directora gerente del Fondo Monetario Internacional, tras la cual ha asegurado que propondrá «un acuerdo de pago» pero «sin más ajustes». En lo que constituye el primer contacto entre el dirigente electo y el principal acreedor de Argentina, Fernández ha aclarado que «quiere asumir un compromiso que pueda cumplir». Durante la conversación telefónica, Fernández ha expresado que han elaborado «un plan sostenible que permite crecer y cumplir con las obligaciones que Argentina tiene con el FMI y con el resto de los acreedores». En este sentido, ha recalcado «la relevancia de la viabilidad fiscal» y ha señalado que es su deber «anticipar que en la situación en la que se encuentra la economía argentina es difícil propiciar un mayor ajuste».
