The Councilor for Development of the Board, Marifrán Carazo, held a meeting this Monday with representatives of the transporters to convey their rejection of the Central Government’s plan to impose tolls on highways and highways. The head of the area has said that what Pedro Sánchez has to do in these moments of crisis is to lower taxes and not raise them; and she gives as an example the fiscal policy of the Junta de Andalucía as a model to follow. For the counselor, the imposition of tolls harms the battered Andalusian economy, seriously affecting the agri-food and transport sector. Marifrán Carazo asks the Government of Spain to meet with the autonomous communities before making a decision to propose another infrastructure financing model. For their part, the carriers, represented by the Spanish Confederation of Freight Transport, consider the measure of tolls to be «nonsense» and recall that already from this group, they contribute to the State 11,000 million euros per year from the payment of the special tax of hydrocarbons that, they say, serve not only to pay more than enough for the roads we use but also to meet all kinds of expenses such as education and health. For this platform, this measure would entail a cost for carriers of 20%, which would mean that each truck would have to pay the state 900 euros per month with this toll system, something that would increase the price of products.
