Pedro Sánchez ha anunciado este jueves que llevará pronto al Consejo de Ministros el aumento de destructores de Estados Unidos en la base naval de Rota. El presidente del Gobierno espera que su socio, Unidas Podemos, le apoye. Así lo ha afirmado durante la rueda de prensa final de la Cumbre de la OTAN. Pedro Sánchez se reunió este martes con el presidente norteamericano, Joe Biden, en la Moncloa y en esa conversación entre ambos mandatarios, Sánchez se comprometió a incrementar la presencia militar estadounidense en la base naval gaditana. Concretamente, acordaron pasar de cuatro a seis el número de destructores de la Armada de EE.UU. en la base española. Esto obliga a una modificación del acuerdo que mantienen ambos países en el uso compartido de esta instalación militar por lo que debe pasar por el Congreso de los Diputados. Aunque todavía no hay reacciones oficiales de los diferentes partidos en torno a esta cuestión, se espera que los socios de investidura y de gobierno rechacen la medida por su manifiesta postura antibelicista mientras que el Partido Popular y Vox podrían dar el visto bueno a la medida.
