(atlas)

Precisely to prevent fires, the Army has joined the surveillance work in the most risky areas. Their presence is also intended to deter potential arsonists. A hundred troops comb the mountains of Cáceres. We have spent a day with them. They mark on the map the points of the Sierra de Gata that they are going to monitor today. And they set off. First stop is a viewpoint from which a good part of the mountains can be seen. Monitor and deter with mere presence. More than 60 military personnel from the Army carry out these patrols through some mountains in the north of Cáceres that have already been consumed by flames, sometimes due to arson. They try to prevent their UME classmates from having to act by risking their lives. We go here and we get into the forest. Surveillance is not only done from above. They walk the roads during the day, but also at night with their night vision goggles to surprise the arsonists. Any suspicious movement is reported to INFOEX and if everything is calm they take the opportunity to clean up the mountain. That’s why they’re going to keep this watch until the end of the summer.
