New clash between the Government and the Popular Party for the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary. The spark jumped this Tuesday when during a visit to the island of La Palma, Pedro Sánchez has urged the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to comply with the agreements that he signs. And it is that Sánchez himself has recognized that the Popular Party signed an agreement with the PSOE in October last year to renew the highest body of judges. An agreement that was reflected in a document published this Tuesday by the newspaper El País. So it was Pablo Casado who was in charge of the popular ones. The revelation of this agreement has not pleased the PP at all, which accuses the executive of «political trilerism» for leaking the document on that pact. This was stated by the Deputy Secretary for Regional and Local Coordination, Pedro Rollán. He assures that it is a smoke screen because until now no member of the Government had made reference to it or had valued it since the arrival of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Be that as it may, and despite the PP’s attempts to divert attention, the truth is that the General Council of the Judiciary has been institutionally blocked for 1,351 days, since 2018 to be more exact, something that is unprecedented and that has led the European Commission itself to warn Spain of this situation. A reform in which the PP does not seem to be in a hurry since it enjoys a conservative majority of judges in that body.
