El Hospital Macarena-Cartuja de Sevilla, un edificio «olvidado y abandonado» en la calle Leonardo Da Vinci del Parque Científico Tecnológico Cartuja, será una realidad «en menos de un año», según el presidente de la Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, gracias a una inversión de 7,3 millones de euros que se está acometiendo en el inmueble desde el pasado mes de febrero, cuando empezaron las actuaciones de la primera fase, que terminará en noviembre. De esta forma, tal y como ha asegurado Moreno, este centro pasa «de lo privado a lo público, de restar a sumar, de ‘lo de siempre’ a ‘lo de ahora'». Y es que, según ha añadido, esta nueva infraestructura cierra otra profunda herida que tenía abierta la sanidad pública andaluza. Por ello, el presidente de la Junta ha hecho hincapié en la acción de su Gobierno para desbloquear proyectos «olvidados, abandonados y dados por imposibles».
