El Gobierno italiano ha decretado el estado de emergencia para hacer frente al aumento del flujo migratorio después de que más 2.000 personas fueran rescatadas en el mar Jónico y el mar Mediterráneo a lo largo del fin de semana. La decisión ha sido tomada durante una reunión del Consejo de Ministros a propuesta del titular de la cartera de Protección Civil y Políticas Marinas, Nello Musumeci, quien ha afirmado que ha habido un incremento del 300 por ciento en la llegada de migrantes por las rutas del Mediterráneo.
