La Fiscalía abre una investigación por los pellets que han llegado a las costas gallegas. Un anuncio que hace un mes después del vertido. El 8 de diciembre un buque de bandera panameña perdió durante un temporal, a 80 kilómetros de la costa portuguesa, seis contenedores. Uno de ellos portaba 1.000 sacos de pellets. Cinco días después encontraron el primer saco en la costa coruñesa y a partir de ese momento aparecen en las playas gallegas miles de bolitas de plástico. El día 20, el armador de origen británico admite a Salvamento Marítimo el vertido, y dice que asumirá los gastos de limpieza. Pero hasta el 5 de enero no se activa el plan de emergencias nivel 1 por contaminación marítima. De momento, los voluntarios organizados son los que coordinan la limpieza.
