🔴Noticia – Adolescentes con cáncer valoran poder afrontar la infertilidad tras el tratamiento

Según edad, tipo de tumor y de tratamiento la Unidad de Oncología del Adolescente del Hospital Niño Jesús, de Madrid, ofrece a los pacientes la posibilidad de preservar material biológico, antes de que las terapias afecten negativamente a su fertilidad. No es una decisión fácil para los y las adolescentes, bajo el impacto de un diagnostico de cáncer qu frena en seco sus vidas. Pero con apoyo médico y psicológico 6 de 10 se muestran muy importante para su calidad de vida lo relacionado con su fertilidad. Según el Hospital los trastornos de la fertilidad pueden producir en estos pacientes estrés, ansiedad, depresión, problemas de autoestima o dificultades en las relaciones sociales y de pareja. Afrontar los posibles efectos secundarios del tratamiento oncológico sobre la sexualidad y la fertilidad, y tomar decisiones sobre una futura planificación familiar, supone un gran reto para el adolescente. La criopreservación seminal y de corteza ovárica son algunos de los recursos que se ofrecen a estos pacientes y próximamente se incorporará un proyecto experimental de criopreservación de tejido testicular para los varones que aún no han alcanzado la pubertad.

According to the Hospital, fertility disorders can cause these patients stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem problems or difficulties in social and couple relationships. Facing the possible side effects of cancer treatment on sexuality and fertility, and making decisions about future family planning, represents a great challenge for adolescents. Seminal and ovarian cortex cryopreservation are some of the resources offered to these patients and an experimental testicular tissue cryopreservation project will soon be incorporated for men who have not yet reached puberty.
