La Junta de Andalucía ha declarado la procesión de la Virgen de la Candelaria de Torremolinos, Bien de Interés Turístico. Esta distinción será publicada en los próximos días en el BOJA y supone culminar un proceso que empezó el Ayuntamiento de la localidad. Así lo anunciaba la delegada territorial de Turismo en Málaga, Nuria Rodríguez, quien se reunía con la nueva alcaldesa de la ciudad, Margarita del Cid. Posteriormente ambas han mantenido un encuentro con los responsables de la hermandad. Rodríguez ha destacado la importancia que tiene para Torremolinos este evento religioso que reúne cada 16 de julio a miles de personas en torno a la Virgen del Carmen que procesiona por las calles de este barrio marinero hasta la playa del Rincón del Sol, donde se celebra la tradicional misa marinera. La delegada territorial de la Junta también ha señalado que con este distintivo se amplía la oferta cultural del municipio.
