La red de telescopios operados en remoto The Virtual Telescope Project 2.0 captó el asteroide 2023 BU cuando se disponía a sobrevolar la Tierra sobre Sudamérica este 27 de enero. El telescopio rastreó el movimiento aparente muy rápido del asteroide; esta es la razón por la que las estrellas parecen largas estelas mientras que el asteroide es un punto de luz brillante y nítido, informa esta red en un comunicado.
