Un barco carguero chocaba contra un puente que se derrumbaba en pocos segundos. Tras el impacto, los vehículos que en ese momento circulaban encima de él cayeron al río Patapsco. Se cree que hay decenas de desaparecidos. Los servicios de emergencias han rescatado, al menos, a dos personas, una ilesa y otra herida grave. El puente de acero medía más de dos kilómetros y por él circulaban más de 11 millones de vehículos al año.
