Con motivo del Día Mundial contra el cáncer, el l jefe de servicio de Oncología médica del Hospital Regional Universitario de Málaga, Antonio Rueda, ha señalado que en el último año este centro sanitario ha diagnosticado unos 3.000 tumores nuevos, excluyendo a los de piel o melanoma, que se miden fuera de esta estadística.El cáncer más diagnosticado en Málaga, al igual que en toda Andalucía, es el colorrectal, porque tiene una frecuencia similar en los dos sexos; seguido del cáncer de mama, del cáncer de próstata y del de pulmón . Pese a este importante número de diagnósticos nuevos, el 56-57% de varones y el 63% de mujeres que han padecido alguno de estos tumores se han curado de la enfermedad y sobreviven más allá de cinco años. Con motivo de la celebración el especialista sanitario ha subrayado que más del 40% de los cánceres se pueden prevenir con hábitos de vida saludable y también con esos diagnósticos precoces.
