El Pleno del Ayuntamiento de Málaga ha aprobado una moción institucional para que el Monte Gibralfaro y la calle Alcazabilla sean declarados Patrimonio Mundial de la Unesco. La moción fue propuesta por Ciudadanos. El Consistorio, por tanto, ha acordado iniciar la tramitación para presentar ante el organismo la candidatura que pretende proteger el entorno Gibralfaro-Alcazabilla, lo que incluye al castillo y la alcazaba de Málaga. El texto argumenta que estos enclaves deben ser reconocidos por la UNESCO por la historia que atesoran, con el paso de varias civilizaciones a lo largo de los siglos, como son la romana, musulmana, la posterior conquista cristiana y así hasta nuestros días. También se ha acordado crear un grupo de trabajo formado por expertos para preparar esa candidatura. La UNESCO es un organismo dependiente de Naciones Unidas fundado en 1945 que, entre otras cosas, promueve salvaguardar el patrimonio cultural en todo el mundo.

The plenary session of the Malaga City Council has approved an institutional motion for Mount Gibralfaro and Alcazabilla street to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The motion was proposed by Ciudadanos. The Consistory, therefore, has agreed to start the process to present to the body the candidacy that aims to protect the Gibralfaro-Alcazabilla environment, which includes the castle and the citadel of Malaga.
