Este domingo se celebró la final de la Copa del Rey de Baloncesto que enfrentó al Lenovo Tenerife ante el Unicaja Málaga. El partido se disputó en Badalona y había una gran expectación por ver a los de Ibon Navarro. El equipo malagueño se alzó finalmente con la victoria al ganar por tan sólo tres puntos de diferencia a los canarios, vigentes campeones de Liga y Copa. El partido acabó con un resultado de 80-83. Al finalizar el encuentro la alegría desbordó a los jugadores y a la afición que se desplazó hasta el estadio catalán para presenciar el encuentro. El capitán, Alberto Díaz Ortiz, levantó la copa para júbilo de aficionados y cuerpo técnico. El estadounidense, Tyson Carter fue nombrado MVP ( se pronuncia em vi pi) del partido. Su intervención en el encuentro fue crucial ya que sólo en la segunda parte anotó 17 puntos. Con esta victoria, el Unicaja se alza con el quinto título de su historia. Ya de madrugada, el equipo aterrizaba en el aeropuerto de Málaga donde le esperaban cientos de aficionados que les recibieron como estrellas. Los que no pudieron desplazarse hasta Badalona para presenciar el partido lo vivieron en casa o en los bares de Málaga donde se vivió la emoción hasta el último segundo.
