Este lunes hemos conocido que un submarino que llevaba turistas para visitar los restos del Titanic ha desaparecido. Así lo ha informado la Guardia Costera de Boston que ya ha iniciado las labores de búsqueda y rescate para dar con el sumergible que llevaba a cinco personas a bordo en el momento de la desaparición. Varias compañías privadas operan en la zona donde se hundió el famoso trasatlántico organizando expediciones para conocer los restos del barco. El Titanic se hundió el 15 de abril de 1912 en el Atlántico Norte tras chocar con un iceberg. Se encuentra a 3.800 metros de profundidad. Ninguna persona puede llegar hasta allí si no es con submarinos especializados para alcanzar esas profundidades. De hecho, no fue hasta 1985 cuando fueron descubiertos los restos del pecio. Desde entonces, las inmersiones estaban limitadas a la comunidad científica pero en los últimos años, este tipo de expediciones se han ido abriendo al público en general.
