Los terroristas de Londres intentaron alquilar camión de 7,5 toneladas

La matanza de Londres pudo ser aún peor: y es que la Policía Metropolitana de Londres ha revelado que los terroristas intentaron alquilar un camión de 7,5 toneladas y, como no lograron cerrar el trato, cambiaron sus planes y alquilaron una furgoneta, que usaron después como arma para arrollar a los peatones en las inmediaciones del Puente de Londres.

El jefe de la unidad antiterrorista de Scotland Yard, Dean Haydon, ha indicado que si hubieran logrado alquilar el camión, las consecuencias del ataque habrían sido mucho peores. Recordemos que en los ataques de Londres murieron ocho personas y otras 48 resultaron heridas. En Niza (Francia), un terrorista mató con un vehículo de 19 toneladas a 86 personas en julio del año pasado.

En rueda de prensa, Haydon ha ofrecido muchos detalles del atentado y una reconstrucción detallada de los movimientos de los terroristas en las horas previas al ataque. Según el responsable de la unidad antiterrorista, uno de los tres atacantes, Khuram Butt, británico de origen paquistaní de 27 años, fue quien trató de alquilar el camión el mismo sábado por la mañana, apenas horas antes del ataque en el Puente de Londres. Butt, que había estado bajo el radar de la inteligencia britanica por sus vínculos con el yihadismo, no pudo cerrar el alquiler del vehículo pesado, por lo que cambió sus planes y se hizo con una furgoneta blanca de marca Renault.

Junto a sus dos cómplices, identificados como Rachid Redouane, de 30 años y con pasaporte marroquí y libio, y Youssef Zaghba, italiano de padre marroquí de 22, salieron del domicilio de este último y dos horas después llegaron al Puente de Londres. Lo recorrieron dos veces antes de lanzarse, a la tercera, contra la multitud que lo recorría sobre las 10 de la noche. Tres personas murieron atropelladas por la furgoneta, que se cree que conducía Butt. Después, los tres terroristas abandonaron el vehículo y se dirigieron al Borough Market, donde apuñalaron de forma indiscriminada a la multitud, antes de ser abatidos a tiros por la policía ocho minutos después de ser alertados. Los agentes dispararon 46 balas.
