El consejero de Presidencia, Administración Pública e Interior de la Junta de Andalucía, Elías Bendodo, ha admitido que el Gobierno andaluz está estudiando la posibilidad de ampliar el proyecto de construcción del tercer hospital de Málaga, para que de las 800 camas previstas se pase a mil por la demanda que se prevé del mismo y para que este centro sanitario no nazca pequeño. Bendodo ha incidido en que la Junta está trabajando codo con codo con el Ayuntamiento de la capital y están valorando que sea de dimensiones más grandes que lo previsto al principio por la demanda que habrá. Por ello, la Junta de Andalucía estudia que el tercer hospital supere el millar de camas y, por tanto, si esa ampliación del proyecto cabe en los terrenos del Hospital Civil, donde se había planteado esta construcción.
