El presidente de Irán, Hasán Rohani, ha afirmado que el país pretende mantenerse dentro del acuerdo nuclear firmado en 2015 para poder beneficiarse de la cláusula sobre el fin en 2020 del embargo de armas impuesto por Naciones Unidas. Rohani ha manifestado que al seguir en el acuerdo nuclear cumplen con un gran objetivo en términos de política, seguridad y defensa. El fin del embargo al país quedó respaldado con la resolución 2231 del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU. Rohani ha confirmado que siguen con el acuerdo por los beneficios que pueden obtener para 2020 a pesar que que adoptaran un punto medio porque otros no hacen nada. Según el mandatario, Irán tiene las capacidades nucleares mejores que nunca.
