Según el Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Andalucía concentra doce de las quince ciudades con más paro a nivel nacional y concentra, además, diez de los quince barrios con menor renta de toda España. En concreto, tres de esos 10 barrios están en Sevilla. Son: Polígono Sur, Los Pajaritos y Amate. En sexto lugar está Azahar-Palmeras, seguida del Polígono de Guadalquivir. Estos dos, en Córdoba. El noveno barrio con menor renta media anual lo ocupa Palma-Palmilla, en Málaga. Respecto a la tasa de paro, Cádiz es la provincia que tiene más ciudades con mayor número de habitantes sin trabajo. Encabeza la lista la Línea de la Concepción, con un 29,3%, Jerez de la Frontera, con un 24,2%, Algeciras, con 23,5%, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, con un 23,3%, Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz capital y El Puerto de Santa María. Estas tres últimas también superan el 20% de tasa de paro pero hay otras ciudades andaluzas con unas cifras de desempleo preocupantes como Linares, en la provincia de Jaén, con un 25,9% de paro, Granada con un 24,2% y Alcalá de Guadaíra, en Sevilla, con un 21,2%. El INE también recoge otros indicadores como el de la esperanza de vida y destaca que del listado de 15 ciudades con menor esperanza de vida, 9 son andaluzas.
