Málaga capital será la sede española de la fase de grupos de la Copa Davis de tenis el próximo mes de septiembre junto a otras tres ciudades: Bolonia, Glasgow y Hamburgo; un evento deportivo mundial por el que tanto Kosmos, la empresa asociada a la Federación Internacional de Tenis (ITF) para esta competición, como la Junta de Andalucía apuestan a largo plazo. El futbolista y presidente de Kosmos, Gerard Piqué, ha admitido que traer la Copa Davis a Málaga es algo que les hacía «muchísima ilusión» desde que se produjeron las primeras conversaciones con el equipo de la Consejería de Educación y Deporte de la Junta. Por último, Piqué ha reconocido «la pasión por el deporte y también por España» que hay en Málaga, por lo que ha deseado una futura clasificación de la selección para la fase final tras competir contra tres naciones en septiembre.
