El secretario de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos, John Kelly, ha confirmado este lunes que el Gobierno de Donald Trump está considerando separar a los niños de sus padres en la frontera con México.

La semana pasada, la cadena CNN adelantó que las autoridades estadounidenses estaban planteando la posibilidad de que las mujeres y niños que cruzan ilegalmente hacia Estados Unidos pudieran ser separados, con el objetivo disuadir a las madres de emigrar con sus hijos.

En una entrevista concedida a esta cadena, Kelly ha asegurado que desde su departamento se está considerando esta opción, con el objetivo de «frenar el movimiento a través de esta red terriblemente peligrosa».

Kelly ha asegurado que los niños estarán bien cuidados mientras abordamos la cuestión de sus padres. El portavoz del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, David Lapan, aseguró que la agencia estaba «explorando opciones» que pudieran «disuadir» a los que tratan de llegar a Estados Unidos «incluso antes de comenzar su viaje».
