Almodóvar presidirá el jurado de Cannes – Málaga 24h TV

El cineasta español Pedro Almodóvar presidirá el jurado de la 70ª edición del Festival de Cine de Cannes. El director, que ha competido con sus películas por la Palma de Oro hasta en cinco ocasiones, toma el testigo de George Miller (Mad Max: Furia en la carretera) que presidió la pasada edición.

Almodóvar ha emitido un comunicado respondiendo al nombramiento. «Estoy muy contento de poder celebrar el 70 aniversario del Festival de Cannes desde una posición tan privilegiada», asegura el director. «Me siento agradecido, honrado y un poco abrumado», confiesa.

Tanto el presidente del festival, Pierre Lescure, como el delegado general Thierry Frémaux, están «encantados de dar la bienvenida» a Almodóvar, a quien describen como un «artista único y enormemente popular». Ambos añadieron que el nombramiento del director español como presidente del jurado ayuda a estrechar la relación que existe entre el festival de Cannes y Almodóvar, quien ya fue miembro del jurado bajo la presidencia de Gerard Depardieu.

English: Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar will chair the jury of the 70th Cannes Film Festival. The director, who has competed with his films for the Palme d’Or on five occasions, takes the witness of George Miller (Mad Max: Fury on the road) who presided over the last edition.

Almodovar has issued a statement responding to the appointment. «I am very happy to be able to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival from such a privileged position,» says the director. «I feel grateful, honest and a bit overwhelmed,» he confesses.

Both festival president Pierre Lescure and delegate general Thierry Frémaux are «delighted to welcome» Almodóvar, whom they describe as a «unique and hugely popular artist.» Both added that the appointment of the Spanish director as president of the jury helps to strengthen the relationship between the Cannes festival and Almodóvar, who was already a member of the jury under the presidency of Gerard Depardieu.
